Carbon Credits
What are carbon credits?
Carbon credits are an important part of national and international emissions trading methods that have been implemented to mitigate global warming. They provide a way to reduce industrial-scale greenhouse emissions by capping total annual emissions and allowing the market to assign a monetary value to any shortfall through trading.
The credits can be exchanged between businesses or through international markets at market price. They can also be used to finance carbon reduction projects.
Timberline Energy and carbon credits
We are proud to be among the many companies which sell carbon credits to commercial and individual customers who are interested in voluntarily lowering their carbon footprint.
For example, landfills with collection systems that burn off methane convert the gas to CO2. When the landfill organization chooses to take this methane and instead convert it to electricity, this new process generates carbon credits. Voluntary collection (not required) also generates them.
When you purchase carbon credits from Timberline Energy, you can offset the carbon footprint for your organization or yourself while supporting these vital emissions-reducing projects.
How many carbon credits can you purchase, and how much do they cost?
One ton of methane is equal to 21 tons of CO2. As a result, every ton of methane that is captured and processed into clean energy generates 21 tons of carbon credits.
The price of carbon credits is determined by many factors including validation process, sophistication of the fund or sponsoring development company, and whether units are sold through the rigorously-validated Clean Development Mechanism.
